Complete Guide for JR Tokyo Station: How to transfer without getting lost! To the Keiyo line
The Keiyo Line platform at Tokyo Station is far away and difficult to reach!
JR Tokyo Station is the gateway to Tokyo, the capital of Japan, where approximately 14 million people live. It is a huge terminal station where the Shinkansen, conventional train lines, and subway lines converge, making it an important starting point for many travelers. For locals who are familiar with the area, it is a very convenient station for various transfers. However, the large station is filled with people, platforms and exits. It's like a dungeon in a role-playing game. If this is your first time at JR Tokyo Station, you'll definitely get lost in no time!
The Keiyo Line platform at Tokyo Station is located underground on the south side of the station, almost near Yurakucho Station. The Keiyo Line is convenient when heading from Tokyo Station to the waterfront subcenter, Kasai Rinkai Park, Tokyo Disney Resort, Makuhari New City, and other areas. It also has direct access to the Musashino Line via the Keiyo Line.
There is also a passageway connecting Marunouchi and Yaesu outside the ticket gates, making it very convenient for travel in the east-west direction.

Complete guide to transferring to the Keiyo Line platform
From the center of Tokyo Station, the shortest route is from the passage near the Yaesu South Exit!
From the Yaesu South Exit on the first floor, a passageway leading to the Keiyo Line platform stretches south. The blue arrow in the image below indicates the passageway leading from the center of Tokyo Station to the Keiyo Line platform. To get to the Keiyo Line platform from the center of Tokyo Station, where there are platforms other than the Keiyo Line, first head for the Yaesu South Exit. Once you get close to the Yaesu South Exit, follow the highly visible "Keiyo Line" signs, which are red on a white background.
From the Yaesu South Exit, it’s almost a straight road
There is a straight road from the Yaesu South Exit to the Keiyo Line platform, but the distance is about 400m. About 50m from the Yaesu South Exit, there is escalators and stairs that lead down to the basement floor. There is a moving walkway on the way, making it easier to walk.
Take the second escalator down to the floor where the Keiyo Underground Exit is located
Walk from the Yaesu South Exit and take the second escalator down to the floor where the underground ticket gates are located (1st basement floor). As soon as you get off the escalator, you will see the ticket gates for the "Keiyo Underground Yaesu Exit" diagonally ahead to the left. Also, turn right after getting off the escalator and go straight for a while and you will see the ticket gates for the "Keiyo Underground Marunouchi Exit".
Go down two more floors to the Keiyo Line and Musashino Line platforms
Immediately to the right after getting off the escalator you just took, there is a long escalator heading further underground. Getting off this will take you to the transfer floor (B3F). From here, go right to platforms 1 and 2, and left to platforms 3 and 4, then continue down to B4F, where you will find the platforms for the Keiyo Line and Musashino Line.
For an accessible route, head towards the Keiyo Underground Marunouchi Exit, where there are two elevators halfway between the Keiyo Underground Yaesu Exit and the Keiyo Underground Marunouchi Exit. You can go directly down to each platform from the floor with the underground exit.
To get to Tokyo Disney Resort, take the Keiyo Line Rapid, Keiyo Line Local, or Musashino Line trains and get off at Maihama Station, the nearest station.
For rapid and local trains, you only need a boarding ticket. To board the Wakashio and Sazanami Limited Express trains, you’ll need a reserved seat express ticket in addition to a boarding ticket, so be sure to purchase it before boarding.
The free passage from Marunouchi to the Yaesu underground mall is so convenient!
Around the Marunouchi Exit of Keiyo Underground Station
JR Tokyo Station has an indoor passageway that you can use without going through the ticket gates, known as a "free passageway," which goes all the way around the station. There is a free passageway on both the north and south sides that connects Marunouchi (the west side of Tokyo Station) and Yaesu (the east side).
You can travel in both directions from east to west. Here, we will look at the free passageway route on the south side of Tokyo Station, starting from the Keiyo Underground Marunouchi Exit at the western end of the free passageway toward the Yaesu Underground Shopping Mall (so called Yaechika).
Outside the ticket gates at the Keiyo Underground Marunouchi Exit, there is an underground passageway leading to the Marunouchi Underground South Exit on the west side of JR Tokyo Station. To get to the underground passageway leading to the Shin Tokyo Building and Marunouchi Park Building, go straight after exiting the ticket gates. It also leads directly to the Tokyo International Forum, so turn left after exiting the ticket gates and head up the stairs or escalator.
Go to the narrow passage on the right side of the Keiyo Underground Marunouchi Exit
To the right of the Marunouchi exit of the Keiyo Underground Station, there is an extremely narrow, winding passage. It may be a little scary, but this is the correct route to get from Marunouchi to the Yaesu side.
Go straight down the narrow passage for a while and you will reach the ticket gate for "Keiyo Underground Yaesu Exit". A little further ahead, turn left diagonally forward. This is the route indicated by the blue arrow in the image below.
Although you will proceed towards “Exit 1”, you will not go outside the exit, so you will not get wet even if it rains.
A difficult section with many twists and turns
From here onwards, the route winds and passes through several buildings, making it difficult to avoid getting lost. First, take the stairs and escalator to the next floor.
After going up the stairs, turn right and then turn left just before the Pacific Century Place Marunouchi Building sign.
If you go up the stairs or escalator from here, you’ll end up outside, so don’t make a mistake.
You will come to an atrium, turn left at the end and enter the building. At this corner, you will see a Family Mart convenience store on your right, which will serve as a landmark.
The route from this atrium is as indicated by the blue arrows in the floor plan below.
Inside the Pacific Century Place Marunouchi Building, go straight until you reach the end. From here to the Yaesu Underground Shopping Mall (Yaechika), there are restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores, making it convenient for eating, resting, and shopping.
According to the sign, you are heading for “Gran Tokyo South Tower” and “Yaesu Underground Mall”.
When you reach the end of the road, turn right and go through the automatic doors on your immediate left (there are two) into the GranTokyo South Tower Building.
From here, there is a corridor with uneven walls on the right. At the end of the corridor, there is a convenience store called "Famima!". Go through the automatic doors at the far right and you will arrive at Yaesu Underground Shopping Mall (Yaechika).
After walking from the Marunouchi side, you will come to the Yaesu Underground Mall, marked with a circle on the map. This mall has many restaurants, cafes, and shops. It also has indoor direct access to the Yaesu ticket gates, Tokyo Midtown Yaesu Building, Tokyo Yaesu Bus Terminal, GranTokyo North Tower Building, and Daimaru Tokyo department store.
If you can master this transportation route, you might be even more amazing than the locals!
Have a nice trip!
