Tokyo Station is a huge terminal station where the Shinkansen, conventional trains, and subway lines converge, but in fact, buses are an attractive option other than trains. Since the way to ride a bus varies depending on the area, you may find it a little difficult to ride one when you're traveling. 
There are surprisingly many bus routes and frequency, and they stop at many destinations within Tokyo's 23 wards. There are also long-distance buses that depart from the bus stop on the Yaesu side, making it a very convenient way to get around.

When you leave JR Tokyo Station through the front door at the Yaesu South Exit and exit the station building, you will find the Yaesu Bus Stop. Bus stops (1)-(9) at the front are for express buses operated by various companies, including JR Bus Kanto. Bus stops (10)-(12) at the back are for Toei buses that run within Tokyo's 23 wards. The bus stop numbers match the numbers (1)-(12) in the image below. The main destinations for the bus routes available at each bus stop are as follows:

Introducing the express bus routes departing from Yaesu Bus Terminal

(Platform 1) Suigo Itako, Kashima Jingu Shrine

Let's start by taking a closer look at platform 1.
Platform 1 is for buses going to Suigo Itako and Kashima Jingu Shrine. Buses do not stop from JR Tokyo Station until Suigo Itako. From Suigo Itako onwards the bus stops include Kashima Steel Works, Kashima City Hall, Kashima Jingu Shrine, etc. At bus stops between Suigo Itako and the final stop, Kashima Jingu Station, you can only get off - you cannot get on.

There are only 3-4 buses that stop at Kashima Soccer Stadium per day, so be sure to check in advance.

(Platform 2) Tsukuba Center, University of Tsukuba, Hitachi, Takahagi

Buses to Tsukuba University depart approximately every 30 minutes, stopping at Tsukuba Center on the way.
Buses to Hitachi and Takahagi depart approximately once every hour, and all buses stop at the same bus stops as they travel to Hitachi Station and Kamimine Office, but please note that bus stops vary between Seamark Square and Takahagi Station depending on the bus.

For both buses departing from Tokyo Station, you can only board at Tokyo Station, and you can only get off at all stops along the way. Also, for buses heading to Tokyo Station, you can only get off at Tokyo Station, and you can only get on at all stops along the way.

Bus stop number 2

(Platform 3) Sakaimachi Bus Terminal, Ibaraki Airport, Sendai Station, etc.

Buses to Sakaimachi Bus Terminal can be boarded from Tokyo Station and JR Oji Station.
Buses to Ibaraki Airport run two days a week (Sunday and Thursday), with one round trip per day, going directly to Ibaraki Airport.
Buses to Sendai run five round trips per day from Monday to Thursday, and take about 5 to 5.5 hours to reach Sendai Station.

(Platform 4) Mito Station, etc.

Buses to Mito Station are convenient as they depart frequently, about once every 20 to 30 minutes. All buses stop at the south exit of Mito Station.

The stops on the way to the final destination vary depending on the bus you are taking. Please check the details on-site before boarding.

(Platform 5) Gotemba Premium Outlets, Tokyo Disneyland, DisneySea, etc.

Buses from Tokyo Station to Gotemba Premium Outlets run six times a day from 8:30am to 1pm. Return buses to Tokyo Station run seven times a day from 3pm to 8pm.
Buses from Tokyo Station to Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea run only five times a day, from 8:20am to 10:10am, but they are very convenient as they do not stop at any bus stops along the way and arrive in about 25 to 35 minutes. Buses from Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea to Tokyo Station run four times a day, from 4:15pm to 8:05pm.

(Platform 6) Iwaki Station, etc.

Buses bound for Iwaki Station depart every 30 minutes to 1 hour during the day. All buses stop at Iwaki Station, but the stops beyond the station vary depending on the bus.

(Platform 7) Narita Airport

Buses to Narita Airport depart every 10 to 20 minutes during the day, and there are many buses running. At Narita Airport, buses stop at Terminal 3, Terminal 2, and Terminal 1, in that order. The terminal varies depending on the airline you are using, so be sure to check in advance.

Terminal 3: Jetstar Airways, Spring Airlines, SPRING JAPAN, Jeju Air

Terminal 2: Japan Airlines (JAL), American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Thai Airways International, China Southern Airlines, Starlux Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, etc.

Terminal 1: All Nippon Airways (ANA), Air China, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Korean Air, Vietnam Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Peach, ZIPAIR Tokyo, etc.

Terminal 1 is mostly used by Star Alliance and SkyTeam airlines, while Terminal 2 is mostly used by Oneworld member airlines.

Bus to Narita Airport

(Platform 8) Ikaho Onsen, Kusatsu Onsen, etc.

There are only three buses to Ikaho Onsen Hot Spring departing from Yaesu in the morning. Many more buses depart from "Busta Shinjuku" at the Shinjuku Station New South Exit bus terminal.

(Platform 9) Shizuoka Station, Hamamatsu Station, Nagoya Station, Kyoto Station, Osaka Station, etc.

There are buses bound for Shizuoka Station and Hamamatsu Station, and some buses bound for Nagoya Station stop at the Tomei Shizuoka Interchange bus stop and the Tomei Hamamatsu Interchange bus stop. Please note that buses bound for Nagoya Station do not stop at Shizuoka Station or Hamamatsu Station. The bus stops vary greatly depending on the bus you are taking, so be sure to check before boarding.

There are few buses bound for Kyoto Station that depart during the day, and some buses bound for Osaka Station stop at the Kyoto Fukakusa bus stop (a 7-minute walk from Fujimori Station on the Keihan Main Line and Takeda Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line). Many buses bound for Kyoto Station and Osaka Station are overnight buses that depart from Yaesu bus stop at night and arrive at their destinations in the morning.

Introducing Toei bus routes departing from Yaesu bus stop

You will find the Toei bus stop just beyond the crosswalk between bus stops 6 and 7. Bus stops 10 and 11 are on the left side of the crosswalk, and bus stop 12 is on the right side.

(Platform 10) Route East-16, bound for Tokyo Big Sight

You can board the bus to Tokyo Big Sight at this bus stop. It is very convenient, with one bus running every 8 to 10 minutes on weekdays and weekends.

Here are the main bus stops on this route.

Sumitomo Twin Building-Mae: You can enjoy the view of Chuo Ohashi Bridge and Sumida River.

Tsukishima Station-Mae: This is the nearest bus stop to Tsukishima Monja Street, where many monjayaki restaurants, a Tokyo specialty, are located.

IHI-Mae: LaLaport Toyosu and Kidzania Tokyo are a 5-minute walk from here.

Ariake Coliseum-Mae, Ariake Tennis Forest: The center court "Ariake Coliseum" and Ariake Tennis Forest Park, one of Japan's leading tennis facilities with many indoor and outdoor tennis courts, are right in front of these bus stops.

Tokyo Big Sight: The 1st floor central terminal in front of Tokyo Big Sight, where many events are held throughout the year, is the end of this route.

You can take a sea bus from the Ariake Passenger Ship Terminal next to Tokyo Big Sight to Hinode Pier near Hamamatsucho station. It’s a recommended trip as it takes just 25 minutes while you enjoy the scenery of Tokyo Bay!

(Platform 11) Route East-15, bound for Fukagawa Garage

The bus to Fukagawa Garage runs every 20-30 minutes on weekdays and weekends, making it very convenient.
The main bus stops on this route are as follows:

St. Luke's Hospital: Right in front of St. Luke's International Hospital. The view of the Sumida River and Kachidoki Bridge from Akashicho Riverside Park behind St. Luke's Tower is very beautiful and recommended.

Harumi Triton Square: Daiichi Life Hall, a concert venue for classical music and other shows, is located within Harumi Triton Square Building and is right in front of this bus stop.

IHI-Mae: LaLaport Toyosu and Kidzania Tokyo are a 5-minute walk from here.

Tatsumi Danchi: Tatsumi no Mori Kaihin Park and Tokyo Aquatics Center are right in front of you when you get off at this bus stop.
